Beautiful Mess: Concerning Spiritual Gifts

December 10th, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

In one of his early letters, the Apostle Paul told the church, “Now, friends, about spiritual gifts, I do not want you to be ignorant …” and it seems like the Church has struggled to stay informed and well-practiced ever since. This Sunday we’re going to begin the first of several weeks conversation on spiritual gifts in “Beautiful Mess” communities. And how appropriate to talk about gifts at Christmas!

Beautiful Mess: The Table of the Lord

December 3rd, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

Ah, the holidays! 😉 Communion. The Lord’s Table. The Eucharist.
We envision a circle of friends sharing fellowship with one another and Jesus, yet so often experience the dynamics of dysfunctional family dinners. Followers of Jesus have been practicing this meal since the earliest days, and sadly, it seems, have experienced conflict around it for almost as long. It’s something we do every Sunday, and in this week’s sermon we’ll take a focused look at what this meal is all about and how it can be an experience of unity and not division. Something important for a “Beautiful Mess” community and its members. Curious? Watch below, where we’ll also have an opportunity to anticipate the coming of Christmas with an Advent remembrance, and hear about some exciting opportunities coming up to serve our city.

It’s something we do every Sunday yet don’t always talk about at length. Communion. And when we get together as a church community, in groups both large and small, there is often the sharing of food and drink. The communion of food and relationship almost always go hand in hand in community. This Sunday we’re going to take the first of several looks at this practice of communion and sharing meals in our life together as a “Beautiful Mess” church.
