Relentless Pursuit – One is Too Many

August 13th, 2017 - Sermons

God is a Rescuer. The scriptures are a story of a loving God on a rescue mission to redeem and restore the people and places that are so valuable to him. This Sunday our friend Jodie Maclean of Relentless Pursuit will unpack this story, from the scriptures and her own life, sharing how she’s joining with God to rescue young girls involved in human trafficking, how we can join in the work God is doing in the world all around us, and ultimately how God wants to bring his love even into the dark corners of our hearts.

Beautiful Mess: The Beautiful Mess of Marriage

July 30th, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

Marriage and singleness (whether single again or never married) are situations all of us experience. These kinds of intimate relationships are emotionally powerful and touch on significant issues. This week in our “Beautiful Mess” sermon series, Paul in the letter of 1 Corinthians turns his attention (and ours) to how to live faithfully as followers of Jesus and mature adults in this key area of our lives.

Beautiful Mess: The Worship God Desires, Part 2

July 23rd, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

There’s a story of a large church with a well-known worship leader. One day the lead pastor noticed that the congregation had become hyper-critical of the time when they worshiped in song, commenting negatively on minor missed notes, etc. He took the bold step of canceling the musical portion of the service for six months, while the community learned to refocus on God’s priorities in worship. When the community sang again, the worship leader led them in a song he had written in the meantime: “I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about you, it’s all about you, Jesus.” That’s a little taste of what we’re talking about: the heart of worship and how we can grow in being the kind of worshippers that God is looking for, and why it matters.

Beautiful Mess: Such Were Some of You

July 2nd, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

The wondrous good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that we can be transformed. We all know what it’s like to carry around false identities, often rooted in pain and poor choices, that cripple and damage us. But through the loving presence of Jesus and the power that comes from his life, we can be set free, transformed, take on a new identity, one that is rooted in Jesus. We no longer need to be bound by what destroys us. We can be set free to soar. Curious?

Beautiful Mess: Why not rather be wronged?

June 25th, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

When you think of the Church of Jesus, what do you think of? A building? People? Programs? Weak? Struggling? And how do followers of Jesus relate to one another, across our differences and hurts? This Sunday we’re going to consider a couple of counter-cultural perspectives, in terms of how Jesus-followers can relate to one another in our pain in a mature manner, and what this has to do with the role of the church in the world.

Beautiful Mess: The Power of Yeast

June 18th, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

Have you ever paused to consider the power of yeast? Maybe while you’re baking a loaf of bread or rolling out pizza dough? Even a little yeast literally transforms a whole lump of dough. It’s the same in our lives and in our communities, including even in our churches. Join us this Sunday as we consider the power of yeast, God’s perspective on the matter and how it can affect your life, our church, and our city.

Beautiful Mess: Designed to Shine

June 11th, 2017 - A Beautiful Mess, Sermons

We’re diving back in to our “Beautiful Mess” sermon series, exploring the letter of 1 Corinthians in the scriptures. Be Filled with the Spirt

June 4th, 2017 - Come Holy Spirit, Sermons

As followers of Jesus we need the fire of the Holy Spirit to fill us on a consistent, ongoing basis, so that we might thrive in the life that God intends for us. That’s what happened for the first followers of Jesus at Pentecost two thousand years ago. And it’s what can happen … what must happen … for us every week too.
